Sheep, goats and Joel Osteen (not the bible)

“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, you didn’t. However, you did criticise someone else who didn’t and so that’s got to count for something.’
The Ungospel of Matthew 25:37-40

I write this post as Hurricane Harvey has brought floods and devastation to the Houston area. Obviously, this means that there is such a need for helping those who have been affected.

However, instead of helping it appears that many people prefer to point out how Joel Osteen is not helping and how the doors of Lakewood are closed.

There’s so much misinformation being spread out there I don’t know the reality of what is actually happening. But I don’t need to as that isn’t the most important thing.

You see when Christ returns, He’s not going to ask us what Joel Osteen did. He’s going to ask us what we did. We have to give an account for our lives.

Criticising someone else’s lack of help doesn’t make us more helpful.

Criticising someone else’s lack of help still doesn’t help the victims of the flood.

If we are doing this we have partnered with a spirit that says I am not responsible someone else is. We are repeating the sin of Adam who instead of taking responsibility for his sin blamed it on Eve and also on God for making Eve!

What is Christ calling us to do in this situation? If we are close we should be helping others out. If we are far then we should be supporting those who are helping by sending money. For recommended charities see this page.

It’s not rocket science. It’s the love of Christ in action.
